Besel, Alexander

Alexander Besel was born in Kirghizia in 1971. Between 1986 to 1990, he visited the Advanced College of Art in Frunze. From 1993 to 1996 he studied at the Städel College for Art in Frankfurt am Main. After this education (in 1996-2000) he becomes a master-class pupil of Prof. Jörg Immendorff at the Art Academy in Düsseldorf.

Since 1993 Alexander Besel took part in numerous exhibitions as there are: the Art Museum in Bonn (1999), Art Miami (2000), Gallery Saccetti in Ascona (Switzerland 2000), Museum of Tivat in Montenegro (2004), Palais Lumière in Evian (France 2007) as well as the Russian Museum in St. Petersburg (2008). In the course of time he received the following awards for his work: the art conveyor price of the Gallery Kö in Düsseldorf (1998), the Emprise Art Award of North-Rhine-Westphalia forum for culture and economy in Düsseldorf (2001), the art conveyor price of Lacoste Art Award (2001) and the art conveyor price "MAXIM" in Cologne (2004).

Even if the influence of Jörg Immendorff is recognizable in the works of Alexander Besel, since the early 90ies , he has already developed his own style, which he remained true to until today. Alexander Besel has committed himself to the figurative painting. Besides narrative elements he experimentalizes with new strategies of mimetic reproduction. Alienation and irritation by unusual points of view, worm's-eye view, distortion and others often manipulate the viewer. Thus figuration, narration and emotion combined in a special way, promise an exciting and stimulating dialogue between artist, work and viewer.
