Nawrath, Johannes

Johannes Nawrath was born in 1955 in Neheim-Hüsten, Sauerland. Between 1975 and 1981 he studied art history, German language and literature studies. A Portfolio of linocuts “Brecht Portraits – Brecht Gedichte” (Brecht portraits – Brecht poems) was printed in 1977. Since 1981 Nawrath worked as a free-lance graphic designer in Hamburg. 1984 he was related to the art of painting. He received the first time awarded “Deutscher Kunstpreis der Volks- und Raiffeisenbanken“ (German art prize of Volks- and Raiffeisenbank) for his cycle “Die vier Elemente” (The Four elements) in 1992. His painting utensil consisted of placard colour and imitation bristol for ten years until, in 1994, he began to paint with acrylic on canvas. Numerous exhibitions followed.

In the art of Johannes Nawrath we can experience a renaissance of realism, which reminds us by its accurate manner of the Old Master painters. His paintings atypically for the use of acrylic turn up very soft, seem unagitated and don`t show addiction to dramatic art.
